New Year's Resolutions 02 January 2005

I've changed the way I do my personal computing and pro-bono projects:
- I'm moving all my data, software and programs to Unix and Linux-based platforms. Initially this means MacOs X.
- I'm removing all my personal dependencies on closed software. (Outlook is gone and I'm working to get rid of CityDesk which is the last Windows-based holdout.)
- From January 2005 on, I'm buying as few software development books as possible. Software development books have a horrificly short shelf life. "Renting" them from safari means that I don't have to wait for postal deliveries, or keep a big store of books. I get up-to-date titles when I need them and I can access them from wherever I'm sent to work in the world by remembering a username and a password.
- I'm bored with Java and I don't see much different in .Net. There are better things around and I'm using them.
